DIFFERENTIALLY ABLED SECTIONS’ DEPARTMENT

The aim of the Differentially Abled Sections’ Department is to extend support for the vulnerable sections of the society like the physically challenged persons, extremely poor families, helpless widows, elderly people, etc.

RB (Regular Beneficiary) Programme

A major programme implemented by this department is the Family Development Programme (Regular Beneficiary Programme) under the Save A Family Plan (SAFP). The major objectives of this scheme is to Empower the partner families by promoting their creative participation in the SHGs, economic independence, promotion of leadership, create decision making capacity and finally lead them to self reliance.

The programmes conducted under the Regular Beneficiary Scheme are the following:

  • 578 persons provided with training on Entrepreneurship Development Programme. As a result, 192 families started new Income Generating Programmes with the financial assistance provided under the scheme.
  • Rendered educational assistance to 156 bright students of poor families for their high school / higher secondary studies.
  • Conducted 3 summer camps covering 165 children which provided them with recreational as well as talent search opportunities.
  • Spoken English Classes conducted for 62 students which helped them to improve their performance in curricular and co-curricular activities.
  • Enrolled 166 Regular Beneficiary Families in the Medi-claim policy which enabled them to get secured against medical treatment expenses for a period of one year.

Interventions for the Physically Challenged

Rural people with disabilities belonging to poor families were finding it very difficult to earn a living. Since most the physically challenged people are not confined to any income generation activity, they feel themselves to be unproductive and this directly affects their psycho-social well being and performance which reflects both in their family and society. KIDS identified the physically challenged persons in the community and proposed a programme that rehabilitates these persons within their community through screwpine craft and other micro enterprises.

  • Formation of 5 SHGs with 100 physically challenged persons.
  • Conducted EDP Trainings and further support to start 20 micro enterprises by these members.
  • Conducted skill upgradation trainings to 80 participants in 4 working centres.
  • Distributed artificial limbs and Wheel chairs to 25 persons in collaboration with Rotary Club.
  • Awareness classes to the parents of the disabled on their care & support.
  • Provide the physically challenged persons with awareness and information on their rights and benefits from different schemes of the Government.
