The word “Cluster” has its own predominant prevalence in the present context of Community Development process. The NGOs or supporting organizations working in the development zone treats “Cluster Approach” as a vital component, especially in the livelihood sector.

               “Cluster”, is defined as “a geographical concentration of actors in vertical and horizontal relationships, showing a clear tendency of co-operating and of sharing their competencies and resources, facing common opportunities and threats, all involved in a localized infrastructure of support”. Reflecting on the whole people of a specific geographic area doing the homogeneous income generating activity can be called as a “Cluster Approach”, according to KIDS.

               KIDS has major priority in treating the livelihood programmes as Cluster, which has been successfully experimented in the Screwpine sector. NABARD has duly recognized KIDS in its performance to promote screwpine cluster and has consented to join hands with KIDS in establishing yet another Screwpine Artisans’ Cluster in a different location. KIDS’ far sighted visualization is the execution of Cluster Approach to the development of different livelihood programmes within the community.

               Department of Industries, Government of Kerala has also sanctioned another Screwpine craft cluster for KIDS. The screwpine craft cluster cluster sanctioned to KIDS by the office of the Development Commissioner Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles is functioning very well.
